There are several ways to travel from the airport to Kyoto, each with its own advantages. This guide introduces three main transportation options—train, bus, and taxi—along with details on prices, travel times, departure points, and how to get tickets.


1. By Train

Main Routes and Travel Time

  • JR Limited Express Haruka: Kansai Airport Station → Kyoto Station (approx. 1 hour 20 minutes)

  • Nankai Railway + JR Transfer: Kansai Airport → Shin-Imamiya/Tennoji → Kyoto (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes)

Departure Point

  • Kansai Airport Station is directly connected to Terminal 1.

  • Both JR and Nankai Railway stations are located in the same building, with clear signage to guide you.

How to Buy Tickets

  • Tickets can be purchased at ticket machines (English available) or at the counter.

  • IC cards like ICOCA are also accepted.

  • For the Haruka Limited Express, a reserved seat ticket is required, but it is usually purchased together with the regular fare ticket—no need to buy separately.
